Founder Dave Rather graduated from Towson in 1991. He spent many years socializing in the York Rd. corridor. He created Mom’s Social Club that brought New Orleans bands to Baltimore for New Years Parties and brought Marylanders to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Having success with the social club, Dave started working on a tavern concept. His brother Adam, the cofounder and executive chef, learned his trade in St. John, Virgin Islands from Chef Aaron Willis. The two brothers combined forces to create Mother’s Federal Hill Grille to sold out crowd New Years Eve 1997. Mother’s Federal Hill has fed over 500,000 meals to hungry guests. Mother’s has won many awards including Top Sports Bar in the country by Sporting News, Ultimate Burger in Maryland by the Food Network, multiple Best of Baltimore awards including Best Bar Food.
