If you’re exploring Charleston for the first time, I would remove this restaurant from your list. We were seated at a table with crumbs on the tabletop and seats, the server took longer than what should be standard to greet a table (usually 2 minutes), and we weren’t warmly welcomed (referring to the server welcoming us to the restaurant, telling us the special, recommending bar specials, etc.) it was essentially just a “good evening, can I get y’all something to drink?”. Appetizer arrived before drinks (not a big issue, but when compounded with everything else it was noted), and didn’t have silverware. The food was fair (some dishes better than others), but overall overpriced. Not really sure if I would come back considering half my steak was fat (and for $40?).

Great food. I wanted just grilled chicken and they made if happen even though it was not on the menu and it was fabulous. The buffalo shrimp were awesome!

Overall not bad - but not a "must do" place either. The service was horrible. Our server acted like she would have rather been any place other than at her job. Certain items in our order were missed (but corrected) and the dishes did not come as described. The seafood was fresh - but that is about the best thing I can say. The vibe is way relaxed - a bit more than we were expecting. Not sure I would return.

The restaurant was a bit more casual than expected (for New Years Eve) but WOW, the food was great! Oysters were better than some fancier places and options for entrees were fabulous! Swordfish, blackened was amazing. Husband got the shrimp and grits and it was the perfect share plates (for those who share). Out waiter was very attentive and knew the dishes well, but hosting was a bit disorganized. While fine dining is an experience we enjoy, Coast is our new go-to place for frequent dining and looking forward to warmer weather for patio. Thanks for amazing dishes on NYE!!!

Why so many fees ? Service fees etc Everything tastes burnt - bread and crab - steak & green beans. Had to wait 15 min for waitress to check back after our meal was given to us. Asked for desserts and took my fried rice & never got it back... $300 for 3 adults 2 kids. not worth $150

Great “hidden” restaurant. Coming in via the alley made our start unique. We got there 30 minutes before reservations and sit at the bar. The bartender was busy and took 5 minutes to acknowledge we were there and told us he’d be with us shortly. Not impressed with the bartender but at least the drinks were good. We had to see hostess almost 45 minutes after our arrival and inquired on reservations. She apologized profusely as they’d checked us in and had not seated us. Paid our unsmiling or social bartender and hoped for better experience in dining room. Our server was sweet and the food was amazing! I would definitely go again in hopes that there was improvement in the basic things you expect in a restaurant just because the food was great. Customer service and hospitality will make up for most things lacking and we hadn’t had that experience yet in all our visits to Charleston.

I was not impressed. We had a 20 minute wait even though we had a reservation. The food was only so, so. Undercooked flounder with not much taste. The crab stuffing was the only thing that saved it. The fried shrimp was ok, fries greasy, slaw was good. Our server was very good. I will not be back. Too many other restaurants in Charleston to choose from.

Perfect Christmas dinner!! Loved Hutson Alley!! Coast is our favorite. So of course we chose this restaurant. It was perfect!!
