Opening its doors in 1952, Club Lago has anchored the corner of Superior and Orleans since before the neighborhood River North grew up around it. Serving classic Northern Italian specialties from the Garfagnana Valley in Tuscany to steaks, chops and signature sandwiches too, the Lago's staff will recommend the perfect entree for whatever mood you're in.

Third generation owners GianCarlo and Guido are pouring the wine or serving the veal--it's a family affair. Time warp back to the fifties with a glass of chianti in a plush booth in the bar or hold court at one of the tables in the back; Club Lago's ideal for the first date, a meal before the theater or a game, or whenever you're looking to relax to great food and be a regular in a family joint.

Some call it "retro," we call it home. Benvenuti, come on in!

Everything was cooked perfectly. Got the booth for date night. Staff was a little busy but that’s to be expected when the foods as good as it is.

I was conflicted on how many stars to give this place. Some things really stood out, some average, and some disappointing things as well. To start, the dining area is spacious and getting a table for 4 was smooth. The tables are provided with bread and butter, but it was cold and tough, so I didn't care for it. Service is strangely both fast and slow. My table had to flag down our waitress to order, which took about 10 minutes to do so. However, once we put in our orders the food came out very quickly. I would say it took longer to get our waitress to put in our orders. Mixed reviews for the house salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was incredibly juicy, but the rest of the salad was okay. However, the house made Italian sauce really pulled everything together for me and made the salad enjoyable. I tried the cheese tortellini with vodka sauce and this was delicious! It was so so good. Everything else was average. The onion rings were not crispy and lacked flavor, but they started to grow on me as late more. However, definitely not "best in the city". The chicken Parmesan was loved by the table and they even ordered a second plate. The establishment was very clean and full of history. Prices were very reasonable and we all left full.

Club Lago is a wonderful "neighborhood "restaurant, with a homey vibe and great food. The service was excellent, attentive, friendly. All 10 of us were delighted with our meals. And the lunch prices were excellent (especially compared with other River North restaurants) Highly recommended.

The food is generally consistent and reasonably priced compared to many other restaurants in Chicago which don’t have the same caliber of food. My only disappointment was that the linguine with white clams sauce was over salted. I would have sent it back, but I was starving and they were very busy. Still delish. The service was excellent and they are always welcoming. It’s old school Italian with a casual but classic atmosphere. Great for couples and families.
