Located in the revitalized East Village and housed in the historical Simmons Building along the Bow River, charbar is spearheaded by executive chef Jessica Pelland with the support of co-owners and chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. This locally-relevant and globally-inspired restaurant partners with Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters to create a collaborative and communal destination. The restaurant features an ultra-dry aged Alberta beef display, a meandering ceviche raw bar, and riverfront and rooftop patios. At its heart is a custom-made Argentine wood-fired grill honouring the art of asado and the culinary inspirations of Spain and Italy.

    Party of 8 last night , wanted to take out family members from out of town. The $150 seafood tower was overcooked and under preforming. There was enough seafood maybe for 2 people. The one steak meal came after our dessert was served, there was a wedding going on upstairs where the camera flash was going off every 10 seconds, very distracting. At the end of the night the server questioned our math as she felt her tip was inadequate. Overall…would not recommend and will not go back. The price was definitely not worth the experience.

    Our waiter whom I forgot the name with nice beard was so attentive and efficient! He was so wonderful. I can’t wait to be back there. The food was fabulous as well, They could lower the decibel of the music then that would’ve fantastic. Even the hostesses were busy but still smiling

    Everything was good: the food, the place is nice and the staff was very attentive. The food was tasty, its well located, found parking easily.

    I invited my son to celebrate his Birthday and Char Bar definitely helped me to make it a special occasion, all food was delicious and they were very attentive to my allergy even when I didn't noticed that a dish contained one of the ingredients that I can't eat. My son had a good time

    Here's a review draft based on your experience: --- **Review of Char Bar** We were excited to try Char Bar for the first time, but unfortunately, our experience didn't quite meet our expectations. We encountered a few issues that left us disappointed. Firstly, the service was lacking in friendliness and attentiveness. We had to ask to order a beer, and the server seemed disengaged. The pizza we ordered was undercooked, and though we were assured it would take just 15 minutes to fix, it ended up taking 35-40 minutes to get back to us. Additionally, the shrimp was soggy, and the meat we had was excessively tender, almost like jelly. While we understand that every restaurant can have off nights, this visit was not up to par. We’re open to giving Char Bar another chance in the future, but our current impression is not very positive. --- Feel free to adjust it as needed!

    Food was great. Really appreciated their knowledgeable staff who answered our questions when we called ahead and helped us navigate their menu with a family member with a new celiac diagnosis.

    Service was VERY slow. Our waitress brought the wrong item, a tenderloin instead of the steak I ordered. She admitted it was her error but I had no in intention of waiting another 30 minutes for my steak while my partner ate his. Despite her error, instead of charging me for the $35 steak I ordered, she charged me for the $59 tenderloin that I had not ordered! Food was mediocre with one dry potato accompanying the steak. We wont go back.
