Located in the revitalized East Village and housed in the historical Simmons Building along the Bow River, charbar is spearheaded by executive chef Jessica Pelland with the support of co-owners and chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. This locally-relevant and globally-inspired restaurant partners with Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters to create a collaborative and communal destination. The restaurant features an ultra-dry aged Alberta beef display, a meandering ceviche raw bar, and riverfront and rooftop patios. At its heart is a custom-made Argentine wood-fired grill honouring the art of asado and the culinary inspirations of Spain and Italy.

I invited my son to celebrate his Birthday and Char Bar definitely helped me to make it a special occasion, all food was delicious and they were very attentive to my allergy even when I didn't noticed that a dish contained one of the ingredients that I can't eat. My son had a good time

Here's a review draft based on your experience: --- **Review of Char Bar** We were excited to try Char Bar for the first time, but unfortunately, our experience didn't quite meet our expectations. We encountered a few issues that left us disappointed. Firstly, the service was lacking in friendliness and attentiveness. We had to ask to order a beer, and the server seemed disengaged. The pizza we ordered was undercooked, and though we were assured it would take just 15 minutes to fix, it ended up taking 35-40 minutes to get back to us. Additionally, the shrimp was soggy, and the meat we had was excessively tender, almost like jelly. While we understand that every restaurant can have off nights, this visit was not up to par. We’re open to giving Char Bar another chance in the future, but our current impression is not very positive. --- Feel free to adjust it as needed!

Food was great. Really appreciated their knowledgeable staff who answered our questions when we called ahead and helped us navigate their menu with a family member with a new celiac diagnosis.

Service was VERY slow. Our waitress brought the wrong item, a tenderloin instead of the steak I ordered. She admitted it was her error but I had no in intention of waiting another 30 minutes for my steak while my partner ate his. Despite her error, instead of charging me for the $35 steak I ordered, she charged me for the $59 tenderloin that I had not ordered! Food was mediocre with one dry potato accompanying the steak. We wont go back.

I booked a reservation for me a 3 friends, we were expecting a nice quiet and relaxing environment (besides the typical buzz and acitment of a restaurant). However to our dismay there was a wedding reception taking place on the second level and with the open concept of the facility it made it extremely loud on the main level, so much so that we were unable to have a normal dinner conversation and found ourselves leaning over the table and nearly yelling at eachother in order to hear what the other person was saying. The wait staff was understanding of of displeasure and were extremely accommodating with relocating us to a more seculed section where the volume from upstairs wasn't so permeating, still loud none the less bit we were actually able to hear eachother without having to yell. If I'm being honest I don't know if I'd come back here anytime soon. I realize that there aren't wedding events every weekend but I will not sit through and subject ourselves to that type of environment again.

This restaurant is one of our go to places in Calgary and we have had several good meals and times there. This past visit was disappointing as they advised us during our visit and before we ordered our entrees that last call was coming as they had building maintenance to do. I would have expected to be advised at time of booking or when they called to confirm reservations or when we arrived. It was a special occasion and all of a sudden very rushed. Disappointing to say the least.

Staff was friendly and attentive as we were seated. We had the grilled shrimp, the corn ribs, and a Cobb salad. All were good though the shrimp were messy to completely peel. I would return though I'm not sure when we will be back in Calgary

Service was good, the food was very good, and as it was our 25th wedding anniversary, this was a special occasion, and having been to Charbar previously, we had high expectations. After being seated, we began our evening with a few non-alcoholic refreshers. The hibiscus refresher was excellent, the pineapple refresher was interesting and very tasty, but the mojito had a strange aftertaste likely due to the habanero/dill hot sauce which it really didn’t need. Next, we had the wedge salad which was delicious. The melted provolone & toasted bread was also very good and not overly seasoned. The seasoned potatoes were tasty but dry. The octopus was very good. The double-stacked burger was… ok. Let’s face it, with a classic item such as this, there is always an opportunity to really make it spectacular and unfortunately, it wasn’t anything special at all. The striploin steak with butter beans was quite good and perfectly seasoned. Only drip coffee afterwards (why is there no cappuccino?) Again, there are missed opportunities here and perhaps it’s time to revamp the menu a bit. Overall, we left happy and based on this, I give our experience 3-4 stars.
