Service was Great, drinks great, but the Surf and Turf had a very small lobster tail, like Wegman's small size lobster tail. Would have hoped for a bigger Surf. Steak was excellent.

Dario as usual was so kind and our exceptional server for our evening! Thank you Dario!!!! The Bowden / Kulak Family appreciated everything . The new outdoor space is fantastic! We hope to come just for drinks soon. The food as always was great and we loved our cocktails!!!

Sat outside and it was beautiful. Joe our server was outstanding. We had the scallops, tuna and great wine by the glass. We also had the cookie and ice cream for dessert. Great ambience, outdoor area is so nice. Highly recommend

Two friends, we came to this restaurant to have dinner. My friend has his own restaurant and I evaluated as a chef. First of all, I would like to thank MERVE, who served us, she is really successful and knows her job. Food was amazing oysters are so fresh and tomahawk steak is the best steak I had in this area I would like to thank the restaurant owner and his staff for the Everything was perfectly good.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The porterhouse steak for two was delicious and fairly priced.

I arrived to quite a confused valet parking. With too many patrons to service and two valet the wait was longer than if I parked myself. I find it odd I have to tip first before they will take the car. I was seated outside under the pergola. As I was dressed casual it looks like all the patrons in casual clothes were carroled outside. We were seated near an opening to the street so patrons and staff kept walking past us all night. The mosquitos were plenty and participated in my meal. A bit too close to nature. Even the piped in music never changed, and got annoying having to listen to the same beat all night. I tried to order a specialty cocktail only to find out they had run out of bitters and flavored gin an hour into service. My partner had the sliced steak which was chewy, and some pieces as the namesake charred. I had the lobster tails which was tasty. We shared the Brussel sprouts which had a nice sauce but several pieces were undercooked. Strangely they came with peanuts that looked like they were added after the fact. This was my fifth trip to the restaurant and sadly I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. Maybe the new location in Scotch Plains will be better .

Steak was overcooked and not properly rested, which is unfortunate to see at a steak house. Disappointing quality of food for the price. Service was okay at best but the drinks were nice. Personally wouldn’t come back.

Char is a lovely venue though a bit dark in the main dining room. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They sat us in the brightest part of restaurant. The food was excellent but on the high side. The outside is absolutely beautiful but it was closed for renovation when we dined. The staff said it would be open within the next few weeks. We had a very enjoyable dinner.

Everything is Overpriced: food, drinks, wine. Good, not great. Shame on Char and Open Table that they fail to inform on the website and when confirming the reservation that they add A LOT to the bill if you use a credit card to pay. Had I known, I would have brought cash and saved about $18.00 'added' charge. Parking lot area is so-so. Front door entry looks more like a warehouse than a fine restaurant. Inside ambiance is fine. Best steaks I have ever had are the ones I grill at home.
