Cedar Knoll has been around for decades. For most of that time the restaurant did not live up to its gorgeous location along side the Potomac river, just a short distance from Mt. Vernon. I'm delighted to say that over the past decade everything has changed! The current owners now deliver a first class dining experience to match the stunning views of the river. We sat on the patio on a lovely night, watching the river roll by while listening to a charming flemenco duo, sipping a nice Pinot Noir and enjoying expertly prepared blackened rockfish with lobster dumplings and veal scallopini with fresh vegetables. The entire experience was an absolute treat, from the pre-dinner drinks (the Francis Scott Key Lime was a hit!) right down to the last sip of De La Chappelle Pino Noir. A perfectly charming evening!

September in the patio of Cedar Knoll with the river view and autumn clematis blanketing the bushes w/the live flamenco music couldn’t be more wonderful than it was. The food is always consistently delicious and nicely plated. The grilled octopus appetizer varies from time to time. Yesterday it was like a nice autumn salad with a hollandaise sauce with bits of perfectly grilled octopus - tender not chewy - which is a feat! Loved the whole experience! Our waitress was a bit rushed because it was very crowded but she was still wonderful to us! This is a restaurant you will make your own!

Everything was great, there a young family with a toddler who was loud, they should have taken him to Denny's instead where he could be a brat, and leave the adults to enjoy a nice dinner. The staff and food were great.

Food was delicious as usual and great value during restaurant week. Wedding event made the noise levels louder than normal but were later managed so that we could have conversations. Lovely view of river and waiter knowledgeable about wines and great pairing recommended to meet table needs.

First time trying Cedar Knoll and extremely disappointed. Reservation was at 6:30. Appetizer didn’t come out until 7:15. By 8:15 we still had not received our entrees and decided to leave because we were annoyed and hungry. Every other table on the patio was experiencing the same thing. The one waitress was doing the best that she could, but this is a failure on the part on management/ownership for making patrons wait two hours for (pricey) dinner. Not a fine dining experience. At least they didn’t make us pay for our appetizer.

Lovely venue. Food a big disappointed. I had prawns and scallops. Both prawns had little to no meat. The two scallops were overcooked and the two shrimp overcooked. $42. Frankly, that is ridiculous. Service was good. Dessert was good. My friend got pork schnitzel that tasted like it had been cooked the night before. Tough and tasteless. Never a winning combination.

First visit. Probably last. Went for Restaurant Week. Sat outside with a view of the Potomac. Food orders were mixed up for my wife. Had to wait for the right plate that took some time. My Key lime desert was runny. My lamb appetizer tasted like mystery meat or no meat at all in one case. Just sauce. There were visible active spider webs along the awning and poles near our table. Caused my wife to be on constant look out. Spiders were big and fat. Outdoor hedges could use a trim. The restaurant is old, quirky and quaint. Overall the restaurant lacked attention to detail and therefore, I gave a below average score.
