Caro Amico Italian Cafe is located in a venerable mid-century building on Barbur Boulevard, just 20 blocks south of downtown Portland.

We are back open for both dine-in and take-out, Tuesday through Sunday, 4:00-9:00PM.

Full of history, memories, & Frank Sinatra songs from the 60's, Caro Amico qualifies for 'traditional' in the City's treasured old family restaurants. Situated just below 'Pill Hill,' Caro offers a view of Portland's burgeoning high rise waterfront and, of course, the 21st Century Aerial Tram as it makes its way from the waterfront below to the University Hospitals and Offices above.

Our Deck is open during the spring and summer months for Outdoor Dining . Enjoy Happy Hour in our Cozy Bar. 4:00-6:00PM.

Traditional classic American Italian. Don’t expect more. Ample portions. Hard to complain but times have moved on and people are more knowledgeable of Italian cuisine now. Maybe some updating would help. At the very least they should add an espresso machine!!!

I first experienced Caro Amico back in the later 60's when my family moved to Oregon and have continued to enjoy it over the years. We were saddened by the Covid closure and are so appreciative that the ownership hung in there and followed up with the recent remodel. Our dinners were excellent, the service was superb, and visiting with the 93 year old owner was precious. Our recent trip to Caro Amico was for our wedding anniversary we were treated like royalty. I highly recommend this restaurant to all Portlanders and anyone visiting. This is like a piece of Portland history come back to life.

Great small feel restaurant with a couple quaint dining rooms. An elderly lady who happens to be the owner comes around and makes sure everything is good, which is a nice touch of Italian feel and hospitality. Great place for a nice dinner or special occasion.

Such a great spot for traditional Italian. Listen to Frank Sinatra and color on the paper table cloth. Super food.

Great food as always. Truly enjoy our quick visits w/ the Owner as she always makes a point to come by our table say Hi, ask how everything is, and make us feel welcome in her Amazing restaurant every time! :)
