    This is an excellent restaurant. The food is delicious and the service was very good. My reduced rate for it comes because the person who welcomed us claimed we didn’t have a reservation and my guest who arrived first was made to feel uncomfortable and as if it was her fault. In fact, they did have a reservation and eventually found it on their system. We didn’t receive an apology for that experience, which isn’t the level of service I’d expect

    Cafe M is one of our favourite restaurants, and this was the first time it’s been other than excellent. The arancini and the starters were great but the pappardelle was very overcooked and I couldn’t eat more than half of it. I would have ignored the matter, everyone is entitled to mess up, but when I informed the Maitre d’ about it, he made it much worse by apologising and then saying “I’ve taken your coffee off the bill”. In other words he was acknowledging that there was a problem, but it wasn’t really worth anything. I would have been a lot happier if he had said something on the lines of “I’m sorry and I will have an immediate word with the chef to see how this happened”. Giving me a free coffee on a £200 lunch bill was a derisory gesture and one which felt that he considered my complaint to be insignificant. Just to give you a little context, last Tuesday, my wife and I returned to London after 6 weeks at our house outside Siena. One of my favourite dishes whilst there is Pappardelle alla Lepra, so I don’t consider myself a pasta novice. Sorry for the lengthy post, as a journalist, am used to being paid by the word.

    They should offer more choice on the menu. A couple of the pasta dishes are rather bland and disappointing. Needs a refresh!

We had a full team of chefs on Monday and there should have been no issue with the execution of the dishes, please accept our sincere apologies for your disappointment.     This place has changed (for the worse) tremendously. Terrible terrible service. Cold welcome, did not have my booking despite I booked through OpenTable. 1 hour and 25 minutes into our time at the restaurant, the waiter drops the bill on the table (without us asking at all). 1h40 mins into our time, he comes along with a card machine and the restaurant, wait for it, was half empty (Monday night). I enjoyed the food but it’s less sophisticated that it once was but this type of awful service is a definite put off for me. Never again

    A last minute booking at 6.00 for a pre-theatre dinner. Booking made on Opentable, confirmed to me by email as usual, but hadn't been received by the restaurant. Not a problem though, they found us a table and we enjoyed an, if quick, excellent dinner.

    First time we eat at CM SJ was very good. Second time? I can only give credit to the Italian waitress managing, basically, alone the all room. Taking the order was an adventure. At 20 o’clock menu choices were already finished. After some compromises order was placed. Main courses were not hot, 1 raw ( fish course ) and poorly presented, the pasta looked good but so salty you couldn’t taste anything else. At the end we sent back the food and asked for the check. The waitress, professionally, informed us that there was nothing to pay. Ultimately arrived home and ordered from Deliveroo. Maybe it was better to don’t open and wait the 3rd of Jan.
