Just a few steps from the hustle and bustle of Yonge and Bloor, Bumpkin’s has been a local landmark since 1971, serving the very best in French continental cuisine with an old world Parisian feel. The newly updated two-story Victorian house has a handsomely sophisticated interior, featuring two fireplaces and a set of crystal chandeliers, that once graced the interior of the Royal York Hotel, and beautiful pieces of art throughout the restaurant.

During the spring and summer months, Bumpkins offers an outdoor dining experience on their terrace, complete with a view of Norman Jewison parkette. Distinct to the menu is a selection of masterfully conceived dishes ranging from the baked garlic butter escargot bourguignon to veal chop with mushrooms to the steamed fresh P.E.I mussels. All of the fine fair can be accompanied by a selection from the extensive cocktails and wine list.

Nice restaurant but we were the only diners on a Wednesday evening. The owner served us and was very attentive. Food was good but nothing out of the ordinary.

This was our choice for Christmas dinner as the menu looked appealing and not too tough on the wallet. Bumpkin’s is a little cottage nestled amongst towering buildings like a diamond in the rough (the neighborhood is decidedly inner city with the expected sights). Inside though is a different world. The greeting was warm and all of the servers were equally warm and pleasant. The food was delicious and the wait short. Overall, we enjoyed it and our chat with the host. Bottom line: We would go again.
