Welcome to a taste of history!

Denver’s original steakhouse, The Buckhorn Exchange is located in the city’s oldest neighborhood, just 5-minutes from downtown Denver -- with a light-rail stop right across the street. This National Historic Landmark and Western Museum has been serving the finest in Old West fare since 1893.

Prime grade beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, salmon, quail, game hen, and succulent baby-back pork ribs are just some of the marvelous offerings on the Buckhorn menu. Exotic appetizers such as alligator tail and buffalo sausage are available, and no dinner is complete without the house specialty, Rocky Mountain Oysters.

For lunch we serve up a lighter fare including our renowned Grandma Fanny’s pot roast sandwich, enormous beef and buffalo burgers and more!

The Big Steak

Steak Dinner Our Specialty There is an old sign on the north side of the building that says 'Steak Dinners Our Specialty.' The same legend was also found on old menus and newspaper advertising. In keeping with this tradition, the Buckhorn Exchange offers large-portion steaks, intended for two to five guests. The steaks are cut from our New York strip loins, with the tail removed and all but a very thin layer of the fat cover. Cooked large like this, a lovely crust is formed and most agree that is the only thing better than our steaks that are cooked for one. Your steak is carved tableside and served with a sizzling crock of sautéed mushrooms and onions. Of course, soup or salad and side dish are included as with all our dinners. Additional cooking time is required

I had the 4 oz elk and 4 oz bison steak. The elk was delicious and tender. My cut of bison was filled with grizzle. Cadillac margarita too sour, could not finish ($18). Dinner salad barely enough lettuce to cover the small plate. Mixed vegetables unappealing and boring--two pieces of cauliflower, two pieces of broccoli, and one green bean--seriously?!! Very small baked potato. The ambience is fun and different and overall an ok experience but for the price (>$100pp before tax and tip and only one cocktail), I expect better food overall. Have been here before and it was excellent so maybe the staff just wanted to get home on Christmas Eve. Disappointed.

This is our Christmas Eve tradition. Honestly, I think for $450.00 for 3 people, we could have gotten a better meal, service, and value at Eddie Merlot’s. However, with that being said, tradition is tradition and The Buckhorn has a rich history that my family values, and everything was good! Therefore, we will be back again!

Food was delicious and prepared perfectly. Server was pushy and somewhat impatient. Ambiance fun and noise level was conducive to table conversations.

Absolutely amazing! If youre an outdoor enthusiast or hunter, love great food, and history then this is the place for you! Worth every bit! From the coctails to then desserts the food was absolutely delicious. Great service. And a fun atmosphere.

Another good experience at this iconic Denver restaurant. Ambience is unique and the food is prepared competently and there’s normally a selection of specials, one of which had and felt that it was good value. I’ve been there many times over the years and love to take people there for a uniquely Denver experience.

My two grandsons from California were visiting here. My Christmas gift was dinner at Buckhorn Exchange. It was fun and fulfilling. They are world travelers and had never been to the Buckhorn Exchange or eaten buffalo. I wanted something special for them and this filled the bill.
