This hidden gem, a short walk from London Bridge, is London’s first real wine bar opened in 1965 by John Davy trading as a Free Vintner. Brimming with genuine character and jovial service, it has the feel of a private members club (for ladies and gentleman) and is home to some of the most original private rooms in the area. Best quality meats hand carved off the bone, award winning steak and delicious seasonal dishes cater for discerning customers. All polished off with a British cheese board and sticky puds. Our wine list boasts a large number of rare vintages alongside an extensive range from Davy’s wine merchant cellars.

A bit old school, meaning the choice of beers is pathetic, the presentation of the the food on the plate is basic and the choice of desserts could not be less imaginiative. I'm not saying they have to be cutting edge, they know what their core offering is, but that doesn't mean it needs to look quite so tired. Definitely not keeping up with the times.

Our food was good, and I love the variety on the wine list. Unfortunately the service felt extremely rushed.

A hidden gem close to Borough Market. Great atmosphere and amazing value for central London. This is my go to venue when I’m in town and entertaining.

Had a lovely impromptu dinner here after just arriving in London after a long trek from Singapore. Despite our jet lag we happened to really enjoy the atmosphere of the place, the quality food and exceptional service. Would definitely recommend for drinks or a nice classic dinner. Try the soup!

I took my parents out for lunch for Mother’s Day - service couldn’t have been better and they had a great time. Lovely food and wine selection. Thank you!

Great place for family Sunday roast. Great service and atmosphere. Staff were very efficient and made the whole lunch an excellent experience.

Amazing atmosphere in a sensitively updated saloon bar with super friendly staff. It was our revisit to a bar after 25 years, one that that we had used daily for many years during local handling local a local construction project. It exceeded our expectations. We are planning an early return.
