Bluestone is a Chicago-style restaurant in Evanston that offers homestyle cooking in a warm and welcoming environment. Owner John, whose obsession with golf led to the more than 250 pin flags decorating the restaurant, opened Bluestone after transitioning from commercial film production. His goal was to create a locale that was filled with friendliness and familiar faces, all while serving a variety of menu options with a hometown feel. Guests can enjoy favorites like crab cakes, or branch out and discover a new one from their wrap, soup, quesadilla or burger menus. Don't forget to try homemade specialties such as the turkey or black bean burgers, or the Bluestone signature smoked wings. There are also several thin-crust pizza options, like the pesto or BBQ chicken offerings. Whether you're just passing through or a long-time resident, Bluestone, at the corner of Central St. and Prairie Ave., is everyone's home away from home.

We had a 6:30pm reservation, and we arrived early. We were seated promptly upon arrival. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but our server came to our table very soon after we were seated… I had commented on the last time we dined at the restaurant, and the service today was by far more superior and attentive (note, the owner of Bluestone offered us a gift coupon for the lack of service attentiveness last time, which we appreciated). The server came to the table numerous times to ask for our drink and food choices, and the delivery was quick once we ordered. The smoked chicken wings were delicious. I had the brown rice bowl with the salmon which was delicious, and everyone else’s meals were prepared nicely and were very tasty. All in all, a nice experience this evening.

Unfortunately we were underwhelmed with the experience. I have driven past this place many times and it always seemed to be full of people so I thought we'd give it a try. We only ordered starters; a veggie plate and an order of the jumbo wings and we didn't finish either and left immediately after. The wings were hard and overcooked and slathered in sauce, and the blue cheese that came with it was unrecognizable. It looked like a thick cup of coleslaw or some sort of custard. The veggie plate came with canned hummus and was just unimpressive. The server who took care of us only addressed my partner and acted like she couldn't hear me each time I spoke. I wished I had a better experience because I am still searching for a local Evanston restaurant that is a solid go-to place with good food, ambiance and service. Unfortunately this was not it for us.

There seemed to be some confusion as to who was our server when we arrived… we sat there almost 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. We ordered our food right away when we ordered drinks. The food came quickly after we did place our order. No one came to our table after being served to see if the meal was OK. They seemed to have too few servers for the number of diners in the restaurant. The food was good, however. The baked mac & cheese side dish is excellent.

Great service. Big portions with lots to choose from on the menu, no matter what you’re feeling like. Love the kale and quinoa salad.

The restaurant was very busy, but our server was lovely. They were out of fish and chips (the special that day) st 7 p.m.; that was disappointing as several in our party were going to order. Excellent happy hour deals!

We wanted a place to have a lunch discussion for work, and Bluestone was perfect. The food is always great and my colleagues were so excited about the burgers and tater tots.

There were 6 people in our party. The server was a bit disorganized but we all got our food on time. Everyone commented that their entre was very good.
