Depuis 1746, le même bâtiment qui accueille la taverne Black Powder Tavern a joué un rôle dans la création de la nation. Il servait d'abord de lieu de repos pour les voyageurs en diligence qui rejoignaient l'Ouest, avant de devenir un endroit de rendez-vous clandestin pour George Washington, le marquis de La Fayette et d'autres héros de la révolution américaine. Le bruit court que durant le terrible hiver de 1777-1778, à Valley Forge, le stratège militaire Friedrich Von Steuben, une figure majeure de l'armée continentale, avait choisi la taverne comme cache secrète pour les munitions de poudre noire des messagers de l'Armée continentale. À cette époque, la taverne continuait de fournir la nourriture, l'abri et la joie de vivre aux soldats fatigués et affamés qui luttaient pour leur indépendance. The George Washington Quarters is a private dining experience on our second floor that can accommodate 35 guests and the Anthony Wayne Room is a semi private dining experience located on our main level with accommodation for 45 guests.

Lunch and dinner are always enjoyable at Black Powder Tavern. The servers are friendly, attentive, and helpful -- always. The food is very good, drinks are great, and the ambience is welcoming and comfortable. Looking forward to my next visit.

Had dinner there last week, which was our 3rd time here in the last year. Service was terrific - friendly and attentive. Food was a mixed bag this time. While everything was cooked perfectly, the daily special Sea Bass was strangely bland and missed seasoning. Other folks at the table had the meatloaf and loved it.

A very fine dining experience. The historical aspect of the Black Powder Tavern, the atmosphere, the food and service were very good . We really enjoyed our dinner and will return !

Good ambience and food. Prices a little high. Good for special occasion. Crab dip $17. Cocktails $13. I found the sea bass special for $38 a little bland. Large and tasty side Caesar salad. Cajun Mac and cheese was excellent. Service was excellent. Glad the had valet parking. Would go back for sure and try their pot pie and onion soup which they are known for.

Black powder is a great place for a good meal at a good price. The glazed meatloaf was one of the best I’ve had. Service was prompt but never rushed.

Colin, our server, was excellent. He was knowledgeable, very pleasant, efficient, and gave us time to enjoy our entire meal. The food is quite good with a “pub style” menu. We very much enjoyed the special soup, Mushroom. While the restaurant is fairly noisy, we were in the back room where we were able to converse without difficulty.

Our experience at Black Powder Tavern was exceptional as always. We had their Mushroom Soup, the Crab Cake sandwich special and Harvest Salad with blackened chicken. Everything was delicious!

What a pleasant surprise! Everything about this restaurant was perfect. From the food to the ambiance to the service, all boxes checked off on this one. Will definitely go back again.

I have enjoyed eating at your establishment for years. Only one other time have I done a poor review and it was before the pandemic and about delay in food. Today, 10/24/24, our waiter was John B - dined at table #41, and I was beyond disappointed. Made a reservation to catch up with a friend who I’d not seen in a while. Ordered 2 wines and said we were going to chat for a bit before looking at the menu. We got waters, you could actually hear the glasses hit the table as it was served. While I was ordering he was looking around. Got my order salad but I ordered without dressing nor beet. Came out with beet. A waitress took it back for me but after 10 minutes I asked our waiter to check on my order as it had been a little long in being brought back out. He remembered then that I had asked for lemon and once again harshly put the small plate its lemons on the table. He said he did not hear me about no beets. OK. But when he brought it back he said I did not say I didn’t want beets. Alright. as we were finishing lunch, he came to our table and before he was done asking if there was anything else, he walked away without having our answer. I asked for our check and when he brought it, I told him that we had had him other times and that the service today was very disappointing. Told him he appeared distracted by looking at the tables behind him while I was ordering my lunch and putting things down in a hurried fashion. He said his aunt had just died and maybe that was it. I said I was sorry about his aunt. When he came back to take our credit cards to pay, he stated he was going to take the high road and mockingly said he was soooo very sorry if I wasn’t satisfied. I left no tip on my check. I was very disappointed as I have never had anything like this in your restaurant. The ambience, the food was wonderful as always. Marilyn Macfarlane.
