In every city, there is a natural gathering spot for city folk and neighborhood people in the know. This place in Saint Paul is know as Bennett's Chop & Railhouse. Located on West Seventh & Victoria, it is the perfect meeting place of uptown and downtown, of quiet neighborhood and big city lights.

It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a Rail-house because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.

And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.

Ordered bacon wrapped shrimp, steak, and lobster tail. All were very good. (It was clear that the French fries that came with meal were hand cut and homemade…very tasty!) Server was attentive with refilling drinks, etc. They have an extensive martini/cocktail menu, which I very much appreciated. Tried the chocolate raspberry truffletini and the coconut amaretto martini. Although very different, they were both very good. This is a small corner restaurant and feels like you’re hanging out “with the locals”. Their menu is quite extensive. We would recommend.

We went to Bennett’s early on a Friday night and were delighted to find a small crowd—no groups on their way to games or concerts. But the pleasant surroundings were undermined greatly by a couple who arrived with two kids, a toddler and a kid about 4 years old who screamed incessantly. They wrecked what otherwise would have been a lovely evening. Not Bennett’s fault but people should try to control their children or think about how their screaming children are affecting other diners. Our waitress was about the most chipper person I have ever seen but even she would roll her eyes when these kids would let loose with their ear piercing outbursts.

This was my first visit to Bennett’s. But it definitely won’t be my last! The food choices were abundant, everything each one of us had was delicious and the service was great. It has a family friendly vibe, and you instantly are made to feel welcome by the staff. if you want delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere, this is definitely your place to go.

Overall ok, but not the wow factor I expected. Food was ok but overpriced. Felt like a dive bar tryin to be also be a fine dining experience.. doesn’t really go together. Don’t think I’ll be back.

The seafood risotto is usually outstanding. This night something was off as the sauce and/or seasoning was overpowering and hiding the seafood flavors. The filet was cooked perfectly but was not tender and lacked flavor other than the crust. Our serverwas personable and properly attentive.

Excellent service! Wonderful food, especially the tips and chicken sandwich with brie and asparagus. Wish the food would have come out a little quicker, although it provided time for catching up with friends. Highly recommend this gem in St. Paul.

Long one of our favorites, we were disappointed in almost everything this time. Like everywhere, prices have gone up. Unfortunately service was very slow and food mediocre. The music was blaring and not at all conducive to a relaxing dinner. The place was fairly empty on a Father’s Day and I can see why if what we experienced has become their new normal. Sad.
