Although we have eaten at the restaurant numerous times, we do not plan on going back again. The restaurant offers a prix fixed menu, and I had asked if I could order two appetizers instead of an appetizer and entree and was told that would be fine. When I ordered, though, the captain took the menu out of my hands before I completed my order and told me it would be a la carte since I was not ordering an appetizer and main course (it did not make sense, but I just changed my order).
The bigger issue was that after we paid and had left the restaurant (on our way to the theater), the captain ran after us, caught up to us as we exited and insisted that we took the check with us. They had already run our credit cards through for payment, and we added tips and left everything on the table, but they could not find the check. I asked if they looked on the floor, since perhaps it blew off the table (we were sitting outside). They had not done that, but asked us to wait and re-checked the table. The check was on the floor, and the captain came back out and let us know they had found it. All four of us looked at each other and thought the entire incident was weird and we received a not very sorry apology. It is humiliating to be run after and accused of not paying. And we had eaten at this restaurant numerous times, which they should have seen via OpenTable.
I called and spoke with a manager at the restaurant a couple of days later, and she was explaining that they must have the check (again, it seemed like it was lost on them that they were accusing us of not paying our bill and that we found that objectionable). Based on the manager's response, the restaurant clearly is not well managed and they do not seem to care about their customers.
There are many other options on Restaurant Row and elsewhere in the theater district. Try another one of those restaurants, not this one.
