First time here and it will be the last. Service was terrible. Asked several times for lemon. Asked several times for leftovers to be wrapped up and then waited finally brings cartons so I have to do it at the table myself. On top of everything, this is the ONLY NYC restaurant I’ve been to that charged 3.5% for using a credit card. Never again.

Oh! the Black Paella was spectacular. The wine selection was also outstanding. The place is small and cozy, reminds me of cute little places in Spain. This was a family trip and we were able to talk without having to shout and we didn't feel pressured to leave after finishing eating. It was conveniently walking distance from the UN building. So if you are doing that tour, stop by Alcala for lunch or dinner afterwards. You won't regret it.

Authentic Spanish tapas! Very quaint, not fancy. Note that the website vibe / photos do not match the restaurant at all. Food was excellent and arrived very quickly. It was a bit hot inside (minimal AC), and decor is very dated

The ambiance sitting outside was very pleasant. Inside seems very nice also. This was my first time at the restaurant and I was very pleased with the food and service. I will certainly return.

Waiter seemed more interested in spending time with his girlfriend at the shop next door than providing good service. Additionally, the menu states a service charge of 18% will be automatically applied to parties of six or more. We were a party of four, but automatically charged 20%. Not sure how that works… The menu and restaurant also state there’s a 3% fee for using a credit card, but when we asked about it, the waiter told us it was 4%. I can’t help but think that we were victims of a bait and switch.

Horribke experience. Sangria was just red wine and ice, no fruit. I had to ask a server to order after we were seated for over an hour and there were only 4 other tables. When I asked if we could order the man I asked looked irritated and told me one more second. The tapas was extremely small, took long to come to our table and initially we were given the wrong items. When trying to leave because we were starving and it was more worth it to leave and eat elsewhere, it took another 30 minutes for someone to come to our table to give us the bill. They charge the card at the table with electronic reader and so you don’t have the option to tip below 18%. I always tip 20% as a baseline but if I had to do this again I wouldn’t have tipped at all. I will never be back here which is a shame because previously I had recommended this place to friends. I will now correct that mistake. Horrible horrible experience.

We went for a light lunch but ended up having a really good full lunch because the food and the service were really great.

This small restaurant took me and my wife back to our years in Barcelona gothic quarters. Tasty tapas, creative main courses, small but well chosen wine list, pleasant service and charming ambiance combine to a great experience.
