We had a group of four, to help celebrate a birthday, and enjoy the Fall "color tour". We were waty greeted by the Maitre d' who greeted us with a smile and warm greeting. He escorted us to a window side table, overlooking the vast Vista of East Grand Traverse Bay, and the golf course below. Our server was Taylor, who oversaw each minute detail flawlessly. Our food was colorful, tasteful, and textures which melted in our mouths and excited our tastebuds. Great time enjoyed by all.

Wonderful dinner high in the sky over the Michigan peninsula. Without question the best view of any restaurant in the area. Elegant dining with upscale bar and dining. American cuisine with varied menu from appetizers to entrees and dessert. The farm to table freshness of the vegetables and fruits are obvious. Dined on the scallops which were perfectly prepared. Local as well as international wine list makes pairing easy whether you order fish or meats (including Elk). Service was attentive and unbrushed. Highly recommend for a special night out.

The food was spectacular, but our server just didn't seem interested in being our server. He was late on bringing first cocktails and he passed by our table several times throughout the meal without checking in to see if we needed anything. We had to flag him down a couple of times. To be honest, he wasn't a bad server. He was dressed well and had professional composure. Our thoughts were that he just didn't want to be working that night and we were a bit of an afterthought. We usually tip at least 20%, but we left 15% because, although the food was spectacular, we just didn't think the service was top notch. Perhaps he was having a bad night, but at any rate, it left us feeling let down.

The view was outstanding and the food and service were even better. Dina was our server and she was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Get there for sunset!

Attended a Black Starr Winery wine tasting dinner. The wines were great, but the food served with the wines did that winery a great disservice. For starters, they had an appetizer table with the usual cheeses and meats. Nothing special - essentially cheddar and salami. Then they started service with Oysters - which were OK, but nothing special. The main problem happened with their two main entrees eg, strangely the fish course came after the meat course. The meat entree was a grilled eye-round cut of beef wrapped in bacon (we guessed it was supposed to be presented like "filet mignon"!). But it was simply beyond eating for us - a very tough dry cut of meat. We found it impossible to chew and settled, after a few bites, for the bacon wrap. Then came the fish main course which was Mackerel - a very strange choice for a restaurant located on Lake Michigan (why not perch etc.). Finally, there were no coffee cups on the table and we weren't offered any coffee, tea or espresso at the end of the meal. Could have used the caffeine! Probably the most disappointing wine tasting dinner we have ever attended.

The view was beautiful and the ambiance was also great that’s where the highlights ended. We did state when making the reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary. While no special treatment was expected some acknowledgement would have been nice. Our server was dull to say the least. None of the usual chitchat, like “welcome”, “Is this your first time here?”, “What brings you in?”, happened. When I did try to engage with him it was like pulling teeth. The food was average. We both ordered the fillet which was a bit dry but not horrible. The server did his job but it felt like he couldn’t wait for us to leave. That was disappointing especially since they were far from busy. Next time we’ll skip Aerie and eat downtown.
