83 ½ is best described as a labor of love. A love of a family, friends and most importantly, food. Chef Vincenzo Mangiafridda, a twenty-year restaurant veteran of the Upper East Side, wanted to open a restaurant that spoke to his deep Sicilian roots. In 83 1/2, his vision has become reality. He created a menu of memorable Italian dishes including silky pastas, inventive antipasti, and delicious entrees.
Above all, it’s Vincenzo’s love of people that makes 83 ½ what it is: a warm, welcoming place where friends and families share their passion for food and familiar faces. We can’t wait for your family to meet ours.

THIS RESTAURANT SHOULD BE BANNED FROM OPEN TABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! I booked a reservation on Open Table for 8pm. We arrived early at 7:45pm and checked in. The restaurant was packed and the gentleman told us it would be a few minutes and we offered to wait outside in the freezing cold not to block the doorway. While we were waiting outside people were streaming in and at 8pm I walked inside again and asked the host what was going on and why they never came to get us. He sort of ignored me and there was a lot of commotion but it was clear they had no table for us. They had seated people who arrived after us with no reservations and then tried to put us at a makeshift table in the open door - it’s 25 degrees out - adding insult to injury they brought in freezing cold patio furniture that they took in from outdoors. When I asked if we could at least get regular chairs the host told the gentleman seated at the next table that I was mad that they were seated in our table - I was not mad at him at all and never said that - the host tried to start a fight between me and another patron. I asked to speak to the manager and was shuffled outside to the cold again. After 10 minutes waiting my date asked if we could please just go somewhere else because she was freezing. Shame on them. If this restaurant is not taken off OpenTable I will delete my account and delete the app.

We really enjoyed this neighborhood gem! It was intimate and cozy - the waitstaff was attentive and accommodating and dinner was excellent.

Our regular go to Italian restaurant in nyc for 10 years. What sets this place apart is not only the quality of the food, but the variety from which to choose. Whether it’s meatballs and spaghetti, bolognese ragu, seafood pasta, vongole and other choices, it’s always top notch. You can even order off the menu if they have the ingredients in house and it’s not too crowded. I get my chicken Parmesan this way or a vegetarian fettuccini primavera. Plus, you’re free to bring your own wine on Mondays and Tuesdays with no cover charge! We’ve been to many many Italians restaurants in Manhattan, and no where is the food as good as this. See you next Tuesday. P.s. they have a full bar with cocktails and a great variety of wines if you prefer that. Service is good too.

This is my second time going to 83 1/2. Great food and great service. Intimate surroundings, just a lovely experience. I will be making it my local favorite.

Food was a bit heavy. The zucchini flowers appetizer was basically deep fried cheese. The pasta was good, but not remarkable. Service could have been better. I would have ordered a second glass of wine if a waiter had come to back to our table. Ambience was cozy, but the space isn't big and they don't have a coat rack or hooks, so our table and the table next to us had all our coats piled up in a heap in between us. I don't regret trying this place, but I also don't think I will be back.

A lovely and small neighborhood gem that satisfies all of the comforts and portions a more casual setting, but with a gently elevated setting and ambiance. Service is professional and warm - This is a great spot for locals and their visiting guests.
